Courts

In 2016 our all weather courts were refurbished with the help of a grant from the Suez Communities Trust. We applied for funding and were awarded their maximum grant of £50k towards the cost of the work so on behalf of the club and members we'd like to give them a huge THANK YOU!

History

Jesmond Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 1883 and has a long and distinguished history, boasting the Ladies' Singles Wimbledon champion from 1902 - Muriel Robb. Jesmond Lawn Tennis Club began on Fern Avenue in Jesmond and moved to its current location of 102 Osborne Road, Jesmond in 1890. The club prides itself on being one of the oldest tennis clubs in Great Britain and with a healthy membership, several men's, ladies' and veterans' teams, the enthusiasm and passion for tennis shown in 2023 is as strong as it was when the club was founded in 1883.

Facilities

Jesmond is very easily accessible from Newcastle City Centre and the coastal area and is very well served with local public transport links including buses and metros. Our clubhouse and patio area look out over three refurbished artificial grass tennis courts, all of which are floodlit. There is no extra charge to members to use the floodlights. With our groundsman keeping the all weather courts in great condition, we play all year round.

Clubhouse

The clubhouse is comfortable and is equipped with a kitchen ready to be used for the all important food after matches! The clubhouse also boasts three French doors that look out over the tennis courts, easy to watch tennis matches during both summer and winter months. We have a pool table and table football that are used for social events or if you're ever waiting for a court. There is also a patio area with picnic benches, a great viewing point to watch summer matches.

Bar

The club has a fully licensed bar that can be opened as and when required, stocking alcoholic drinks including canned lager, a selection of wine as well as teas, coffees, soft drinks and snacks.
